The Dad I Want To Be with Mike Forrester
A fatherhood and marriage podcast for men who swore they’d never be like their father and want to keep that promise as a husband and a dad.
You swore you’d be a different kind of dad than the father who raised you. Then one day you caught his words and tone coming out of your mouth. You felt the same distance creep in at home, and wondered how much of him you’re still carrying despite the promise you made to yourself.
The Dad I Want To Be, formerly Living Fearless Today, is a podcast for men who are done repeating what they grew up with. Host Mike Forrester is a husband, dad, and grandpa with 30 years in corporate IT behind him, and he did this work in himself and his own family before he started helping other men. He’s been bringing these conversations since 2021 and founded the internet radio station MensMentalHealth.fm to reach more men.
Every week you’ll get honest conversations and practical tools for the parts of a man’s life that rarely get said out loud: the anger that shows up with the people you love most, the marriage that’s gone cold, the father you’re still measuring yourself against, and the dad you still want to become.
The show helps you understand the past that shaped you. Then you take an honest look at where you stand today as a husband, a dad, and a man. From there you build the future you want, one choice at a time, instead of drifting into the one you were handed. It starts with a pause where you would’ve exploded, or staying engaged where you would’ve shut down.
Whether you explode or go quiet, whether your kids are still small or already grown, you’ll hear from men who were never shown what to do with what they felt, and men who decided their kids would not grow up scared of them. If you’ve searched for how to stop yelling at your kids, why you’re turning into your father, how to break generational cycles, what to do with a father wound or an absent father, or how to stop shutting down on your wife and become a better husband and father, start here.
The cycle can end with you. Press play, follow the show, and take the first step toward becoming the dad you want to be.
